The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Terminal Server Temporary License Expired, Clients Can't Connect even though we have valid CAL's

Asked by ubiquitas in Remote Desktop/Terminal Services, Windows 2003 Server

Tags: , ,

Hello

Recently clients started getting a warning when connecting to our terminal server, telling them the temporary license would expire in X days.

As the  licensing server (a separate 2003 machine) has 10 valid, unused 2003 CAL's i wasn't too worried.

Today, clients cannot connect at all, the error being

"The remote session was disconnected because the local computer's client access license could not be upgraded or renewed"

I've check the licensing server and it shows 4 licenses as follows

PRODUCT / TYPE / TOTAL / AVAILABLE / ISSUED
Existing Win 2000 Server licences / built-in / unlimited / unlimited / 4
Temporary licenses for 2003 server / Temporary / - / - /  21
Win Server 2003 TS Per User Cal / Retail Purchase / 5 / 5 / not applicable
Win Server 2003 TS Per User Cal / Retail Purchase / 5 / 5 / not applicable

The machine we run Terminal Services on is only 3 months old (approx), I thought that pointing to the old Terminal Server machine (also running licensing) would be OK.

I'm lost, what's going on here? Why have 21 temporary licenses been used and non of the retail purchase ones ?

Any help appreciated, as I need to sort this before 9am GMT tomorrow
