The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Terminal Service client printers not disconnecting when session ends

Asked by WS6Jay in Remote Desktop/Terminal Services, Microsoft Server, Windows 2003 Server

Ok I have 2 customers experiencing this same problem. They have people that connect through Terminal Services to their server and their printers are connected and seem to work fine for the first connection. After they disconnect and connect later or the following day, they have the option to select the same exact printer from previous sessions. I have attached a screenshot of what I am talking about. The printers are not disconnecting. If you look in the screenshot there is a HP Laserjet P1006 printer connected with many sessions but if you go to the Terminal Services Manager, there is no active session from the computer TOSHIBA-USER, she isn't even connected to the server at the time of the screenshot.
If I try to delete any of these hung up printers, I get the error message "Printer cannot be removed. Either the printer name was typed incorrectly, or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server. For more information, click Help."

The only way I have found to get rid of the hung up duplicate printers is to restart the spooler service, which also disconnects all terminal service connected printers, even if the users are still connected to terminal services, so they have to reconnect to reconnect their printer.

I have made sure the users are actually logging off and not just disconnecting and I have changed the user settings to end the session after 1 minute of disconnecting. Please help, I am at a loss and can't seem to find a solution!
