The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Help to set-up a TS Gateway in Server 2008

Asked by cuadmin in Remote Desktop/Terminal Services, Windows Server 2008

Hi experts

I have just installed my first Server2008 in my current 2003 SBS domain. I would like to set it up as a TS Gateway to get mobile users into my LAN. I have tried to follow the Microsoft set-up guide but must be getting something mixed up along the way.

I have installed the TS gateway role. I have a public IP address eg, 123.456.789.101, attached to a router. I assume the users would RDP into the public IP address and the router would then need to forward port 3389 or similar to my TS Gateway server? Please advise if this is indeed what i need to do.

Also, interested to know if a server generated certificate suffice or should i purchase and install a certificate from a CA?

From my understanding, the certificate is installed on the TS Gateway and also the remote user client PC, who then uses RDP with TS Gateway settings configured in the Advanced tab to point at my TS Gateway server. Would that be the public IP of my TS Server or the internal LAN IP?

Once the connections are made i then have CAPS and RAPS to filter the users access within the LAN.

I would prefer step by step instructions, rather than wading through another MS document. I have read a fair bit about the TS Gateway role already, i just need some help to set up my scenario.
