The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Need help relating to Windows 2003 Server and remote desktop

Asked by snyperj in Remote Desktop/Terminal Services, Windows 2003 Server

Let me preface this question by saying that I don't work in the IT department at my company but that I am involved in IT related work for my department.  Our department is Project Managers.  We have a new client, a Fortune 500 company, at which one of our PM's will be working on site and will be using one of the client's desktop PC's.  This is a typical arrangement for us.  Our on-site PM's need to be able to connect to our network to use several applications as part of their work.  This is routinely done using a remote desktop connection back to our remote server, which is running Windows 2003 Server R2.  This allows them to use Outlook, use our business system to look up orders, and also use several other mission-critical applications to carry out the responsibility of their roles as project managers.  At this new company the PM is telling me that she is not allowed to use remote desktop and that the service is disabled.  I am guessing that is because they have it blocked by the firewall.   My question is , what exactly do I need to ask them to do with regard to ports, etc, to allow her to use a remote desktop connection to our server.  She only needs to connect outbound for the reasons I listed above.  I would like to put together a well-written email to their IT department so that is what I am looking for some help with, the wording.  What do I need to ask for, how can I convince them to do it, etc...

Big thanks on this one...  I need to somehow make this happen, even though their policies seemingly don't permit it.
