AdamBNYC, thanks for the feedback. I have a TZ190 and I think that's a bit more powerful then the TZ170. I did check the cpu usage on it and it never goes above 50%...would you see the CPU on the 170 max out?
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI have implemented BWM (bandwidth management) on our Sonicwall TZ190's to limit the amount of traffic over the WAN. I need WAN traffic limited so that the RDP traffic going over the VPN is not effected with high latency. However, it appears that with BWM enabled and active it does increase the latency, between 100-250ms. Without the BWM and WAN traffic sucking up all available bandwidth the latency climbs to over 600ms.
So, BWM does help and works. However, is it anyone else's experience with BWM that latency would climb like this and should be considered normal?

I did some research on the TZ190. Depending on the features you are turning on, you can cripple it. If you turned everything on, it would probably give you a whole bunch of problems. Below is info i took directly from sonicwall.

How much pipe do you have going through the TZ170? I used to deploy them all the time, the biggest issue I ran across is that the TZ170 is not rated for pipes bigger than 5mbps. When you turn on the Bandwidth stuff, the weak processor on the TZ170 takes a bad hit and reduces the amount of bandwidth it can handle to somewhere around 2mbps. This may very well be your problem. The processor can't keep up with what you are telling it to do. This info came straight from sonicwall when I had a very similar problem.
