Remote Desktop on Server 2003 will not upgrade to 6.1

I had upgraded RDP on a Windows 2003 server to version 6.1 so as to be able to connect to Server 2008 systems.
With last weeks patches I find RDP has been downgraded to version 6.
When I re-apply the KB with 6.1 in it nothing happens.
WindowsServer2003-KB925876-v2-x86-ENU.exe completes but does nothing.

Or any other way of getting NLA in RDP  to work from server 2003.

Hi carolchi,

RDP 6.1 is not supported by Windows Server 2003 but if there is a solid reason as to why you are doing this you can attempt the trick mentioned in this forum - http://www.brentpabst.com/bp/2008/09/22/MicrosoftRDC61ForWindowsServer2003.aspx

Download the XP SP2 Client
Once Downloaded the application needs to be run in XP SP2 compatibility mode
Right-Click the installer
Select Properties
Check the "Enable Compatibility box"
Select "Windows XP"
Apply and Close
Run the installer  follow the prompts and complete the installation
Ta-da RDC 6.1 for Windows Server 2003

Just for your knowledge RDP 6.1 is only supported on the following platforms -
RDC6.1 is now available on the following platforms:

Windows Server 2008
Windows Vista SP1
Windows XP SP3
Windows XP SP2 (KB 952155)
