Connect to a Windows instance on Amazon Web Services - Elastic Cloud Compute (AWS EC2) via Windows Remote Desktop

I've created a brand new Windows instance on Amazon EC2, and want to connect to this instance via remote desktop, but i'm not able.

The instance is running, the security group should be ok, and i'm connected to the internet via a direct connection.

I allready tried to create a linux instance and connect to it via SSH, and had no problems at all.


I use following security group settings:

MS SQL Server - tcp - 1433 - 1433 - 0.0.0.0/0
RDP - tcp - 3389 - 3389 - 0.0.0.0/0
HTTP - tcp - 80 - 80 - 0.0.0.0/0

Did you check firewall settings? Can you see your connection on the Windows Instance box (through something like tcpview or simple netstat)? Can you reach box by others protocols besides RDP?

It's a brand new instance I've created on amazon.

I don't think there are other ways to connect to amazon instances beside the remote desktop connection.
In my security settings (on amzon management console) I allow connections from any ip to the 3389 port (RDP)

So I don't have access yet to this windows instance, so I can't check firewall settings, tcpview, netstat, ... If I would, my problem would be solved :o)

Still no luck. With the console tools you can do the same setup and configuration like you would in the webinterface.

can you connect to other servers via RDP? trying to rule out rdp blocking on your pc..

I was able to connect to remote machines on my machine, but it was via a VPN tunnel. My router blocked RDP connections directy to the internet. Stupid me :-)

The comment of Silentez also helped me a lot, thats why I split points.
