Question

Terminal Server printing

Asked by: nick_kessler

Printing over TS used to work just fine, now it seems that the re-directed printers are no longer removing themselves after a user logs off. I have attached a screen shot of printer list, maybe someone can help me understand why this started to happen, thanks!!!

This is usually due to a bad printer driver.  Have you installed any drivers on the server recently?  If so, remove it.

Personally, I have HiveCleanup loaded on all my TS.  This will get rid of the problem.

Thank you, I too have the hive cleanup tool loaded, but doesn't see to be doing the job. After loading that tool, I didn't configure anything, was I missing a step two.

Sorry for not looking at KB first, everyone here is just so responsive I tend to forget to look there first, thanks again!!!

You can find those printers here in the registry:
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE ->SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Control -> Print - Printers

You can delete the ones you need to get rid of.  The cleanup tool will only work going forward - not for the old printers already in the system.

OK, I have deleted the excess printers in the registry, restarted... Should I re-install Hive Cleanup or should it start to work?

I also read that using a GPO to disable the X so users are forced to logoff and thus reset session, do you know where that might be, and is it on TS or client comps?

Thanks.

In reading more of the solutions, they all talk about editing the client machines, which can be difficult. Then possibly having the session disconnect immediately, is this how you have your TS setup?

by: wdurrettPosted on 2009-11-06 at 07:56:21ID: 25760218

No, I do not.  I have remote users and travelers that sometimes get disconnected, so I leave the session open for 3 hours before they are logged off in the event of a disconnect.
