Hi,

Been working on this for over a week and really stuck now. Any help would be very much appreciated!

I've just rolled out 22 new XP Professional SP2 laptops for a customer and, as Service Pack 3 RTM had just been released, I thought it was a good idea to install SP3 during the build before deployment. However, the updated version of Remote Desktop Connection (included in SP3) stops these laptops connecting to their Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services server - after entering their login credentials, they get the error "Remote desktop disconnected: the computer can't connect to the remote computer".

Other XP computers connect to the same terminal server with no problem so I did some extensive testing:

- XP Professional SP2 connects OK;
- Installed the Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 update (KB925876) and then it does not connect;
- Removed the Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 update (C:\Windows\$NTUninstallKB925876$\spuninst\spuninst.exe) and then it works again - the update was definitely causing my problem;
- Installed XP SP3 and then it does not connect.

Service Pack 3 includes the Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 (or 6.1 ??) update but I have no uninstall option for it now because it is not listed as a separate update (it is just included as part of the big SP3 package). It seems that the only way to fix this problem is to remove SP3, install SP2 and download all available Windows Updates on TWENTY-TWO laptops !!! AAAAARGH !!!!! This will be a really big problem as most of these laptops are for remote workers that do not come into the main office often.

Is there a way to roll back the Remote Desktop Connection component to the version that XP had before Service Pack 3 ??

The new laptops are fairly useless without terminal services access. They were a big investment as the customer is a charity organisation. The laptops were for new staff who are now trying to use them remotely most days. For these reasons, I have assigned the maximum 500 points. Thanks.
