The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

I can no longer connect to my Domain controller using Remote Desktop after a change to my Default Group Policy. We have a network with about 20 Servers and 500 workstations with 2 Domain Controllers running Windows 2003 R2 SP2. We were using a product called Websense for content filtering. We decided to try an Appliance based solution (Websense was too costly). I was evaluating a product called Sophos W1000. It was recommended by them that I set it up as a Proxy so I could integrete Active Directory with it, so I gave it an IP address on our network, connected it to a switcth port on our intranet  and then enabled the Proxy in our GPO and I also removed the access to Lan settings in the Connections Tab of Internet Explorer so users could not bypass the Proxy. The Appliance caused me some headaches so I tried to disable the Proxy in the GPO but the workstations were still using the Proxy. I would try GPUPDATE /FORCE on the DC and the workstation and still  no change.  I tried creating another GPO and configured it with the settings of the old one  (minus the Proxy and Lan setting0 moved it up in Priority and made sure the Block Inheritance was not checked on the orignal and waited till the next day to try it. The workstations no longer were using the Proxy but I could nolonger RemoteDesktop to my Domain Controller and the Lan selection in the Connections tab was still unaccessible. I tried to go back to the original GPO but I still could not Remote to my DC. If I ran an RSOP.MSC and looked at the Precedence tab it would show Disabled no matter which GPO was in affect. I can Remote to any other Server and I can ping my DC. If anyone has any suggestions it would GREATLY be appreciated. I used GPO NAME \ USER CONFIG \ WINDOWS SETTINGS \ Internet Explorer Mainatence \ Connections \ Proxy to enable and disable Proxy. To access my GPO I opened active directory Users and Computers [Domain  Controller.ORG], Went into the properties of the Domain, selected the GPO tab and hit EDIT to make changes to the Domain Default Policy.Start Free Trial
