The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Having very very strange issues with SBS 2003.  Urgent

Asked by Dan_Goodfriend in SBS Small Business Server

I have been having major issues on a SBS 2003 with a very light load and only 3 clients.  The first problem I noticed was very slow performance.  I checked the processes and Inetinfo and store were leaking.  I shut those down and looked up on here and saw that this may have related to the SMTP server.  Since I was planning on removing Exchange server anyways (it was unused except for OWA which is no longer needed) I waitied and advised the client to terminate the service if the system became sluggish. (FYI: 2.67 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, P4)

From this point on, the $%#@ hit the fan.  I restarted the server and it took several hours to get past the "applying computer settings" point.  The network connections were not working.  I waited about two days until I had some time to work on the machine.  When I restarted, it again took 2 hours to get past the "applying computer settings" screen and was very sluggish.  I could not even get into the control panel or right click for properties.  I went through the processes and started terminating the non-critical ones.  After I terminated the SQL server exe, everything snapped to.

Now here's the weird part.  It looks like everything was reset to how I had it about 4 months ago.  The domain is different, the active directory is blank, the server management console is gone.  The IP addresses of the NICs were different and even the random things like the desktop settings were wrong.

The client computers still log into the old domain (but where are they getting validated from?)  I cannot see the clients from the server or the server from the clients.

I am absolutely lost.Start Free Trial
