The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Security Accounts Manager failed on boot

Asked by proactiveit in SBS Small Business Server, Adobe Type Manager

We received a phone call from a client with a SBS server saying they could no longer access their server. When we looked at the Server it had rebooted and was 3/4 of the way through but had stopped with an error message of:
lsass.exe - System Error
Security Accounts Manager initialization failed because of the following error: Directory Service cannot start. Error status: 0xc00002e1. Please click OK to shutdown this system and reboot into Directory Services Restore Mode, check the Event Log for more detailed information.

Upon rebooting without going into Directory Services Restore mode (DSRM) before this error message appears the system says Active Directory is repairing Indices.

When I rebooted into Directory Services Restore mode I found a lot of errors in the event log of services not starting. A few event logs read as such:
Event Type:      Error
Event Source:      Service Control Manager
Event Category:      None
Event ID:      7023

Upon more investigation I found that the Kerberos Key Distribution Center and Netlogon services will not start.
When I try to start the Kerberos Key Distribution Center service manually in DSRM I get the error:
Could not start the KKDC service on local computer.
Error 0x80090339: The local machine must be a Kerberos KDC (Domain Controller) and it is not.

When trying to start Netlogon the service fails with the following message:
The Net Logon service on local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they do not have work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service

Do I need to rebuild the clients server or is there a tool or process I can use to repair this server?
