The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

WIndows 2003 server hangs "applying computer settings" beginning July 14, 2006 with APC PowerChute Business Edition 7.02

Windows SBS 2003 server hangs "applying computer settings" beginning sometime in the past 5 days with APC PowerChute Business Edition 7.02.

Remembering the issue with versions 6.x of Powerchute (when the Java certificate expired on July 31, 2005 causing the same symptoms) I was able to disable the APC services using a remote computer, after which the server starts up fine again.  Referring back to APC's knowledge base, I did find that version 7.02 was not affected by the issue last year.

My suspicion is that APC has essentially screwed up 7.02 in the same way that 6.x was broken last year, but I've not found any factual evidence of this (aside from the fact that the server will not start properly with 7.02 services enabled).  In the meantime I am leaving Powerchute disabled to provide a temporary fix.

I know that version 7.04 is available but am reluctant to go with it at this point.  Does anyone else know of an issue that began affecting APC Powerchute 7.02 beginning in July of 2006?  This is more of a rhetorical question, however points will be awarded to anyone who can answer the question pertaining to version 7.02 and why it is hanging the server.

Regards,
Mike
