LANMANSERVER SERVICE CRASHES ON MICROSOFT WINDOWS 2003 SMALL BUSINESS SERVER

We have a Windows 2003 Small Business Server.  Last night for the first time ever the service "Lanmanserver" shutdown and would not restart.  I cold rebooted the server this morning, and it appeared to be ok for the first hour, then it occured again.  Of course this service shuts down all the networked shared drives causing my clients to panic.  This is a transit authority.
