The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

SMTP Alerts in sharepoint

Asked by cetomas in SBS Small Business Server

Hello folks...

I have an sbs 2003 server sp1, smtp service is functioning properly, and alerts for sharepoint configured properly, and somewhat functioning.  My problem is that the smtp service is using the internal .local domain to send the alerts to an outside email address.  So, naturally those emails are getting rejected with a 550 error citing the following...

550-unrouteable mail domain "internaldomainname.local"
550 Sender verify failed

My problem is that i'm not using this server for email services outside of this, (i will eventually be migrating email for the outside domain to be hosted here using exchange) and i simply want to send these alerts for a couple of sharepoint folders at this point.

So i've tried configuring another smtp service with the default domain being the company's outside domain name. (which, as mentioned, has mail hosted outside, with the webhosting company).   This smtp service is using it's own IP, and i've configured email settings in sharepoint to use this IP as the SMTP server.

But the NDRs still show up, citing the "administrator@internaldomainname.local" as the originator.

So, is there anyway for me to setup outgoing smtp for this without exchange, and migrating mail (pointing MX to the server IP)?

I'm kinda under the gun for time on this, and any help would be much appreciated.

thanks guys...
