Question

Remote Web Workplace-Limiting users to certain computers

Asked by: tlass10

Is there a way to not allow certain users with the Remote Web Workplace group membership to connect to certain computers? In other words, can you set a computer to allow remote access to some users and not others with RWW?
I would like to have users connect only to their computer in the office and not other users computers. Thank you.

By default, only the user that is assigned to each workstation has access via RWW to their compouter.  This happens as long as you use the http://<servername>/connectcomputer wizard when originally joining a workstation to the network and during that wizard you are asked which user to assign to that computer.

What actually happens here, is the particular is made to be a member of that workstation's local Administrators group.  Which, therefore, grants them the right to log on via Terminal Services (via RWW).

So, if you do it by the book... your desired outcome is what actually happens.

Thanks Jeff,
I followed another one of you posts on unjoining the domain, changing to workgroup, changing the computername, deleting old computer name from AD and DNS, precreating the new computername in Server management. Then using http://servername/connectcomputer to join new computername to the domain. I selected only the primary user in the wizard, and she is only the local administrator when I look in the user applet on the local PC. She can log into the computer with RWW, but other users still can as well. She does not want this guy connecting to her computer, only her. Both users are members of the Remote Web Workplace Users group and I believe this is why they can log onto any PC on the network that has RWW enabled. I cannot see a way to limit users to specific PC's. Thanks for your help.

Please list all of the members of the local administrators group on that PC.

The Remote Web Workplace Users group does NOT grant a user access to a specific machine, by the way... this is done by each computer's Remote Desktop Users group (of which the local administrators group is automatically a member).  Domain Administrators are also automatically members because they are members of the local administrators group.

Thanks Jeff,
Upon  further inspection "Domain Users" were in the local Remote Web Workplace Users Group.
