SBS 2003 R2 clients svchost.exe using lots of RAM after running connectcomputer and joining domain.

I've recently installed a new SBS 2003 R2 with SQL Server 2005 WGE from the October MSAP. I joined several XP machines to the domain using connectcomputer. Both machines first instance of svchost.exe are using 20 times the RAM they did when they were clients of a Windows 2003 standard domain. I suspect windows update is related to the issue. The client machines were installed about 6 months ago. They have CA antivirus and I'm running Windows Defender. I ran todays Ewido - and examined my Hijackthis logs and saw nothing amiss. This preamble is so I don't get the immediate response that I should check for malware although I haven't discounted the possiblity. I've cleaned malware off over 400 machines since 2003 and consider myself proficient at malware remediation.

The machine with 1GB RAM is using 160MB RAM for the svchost.exe instance that runs AudioSrv, Browser CryptSvc and the other usual 25 services. This started I believe when I implemented the R2 Update Services. Is anyone else seeing this? The machine with 512 is using about 100MB for svchost.exe.

Other things about this install. Its an internal test network. It has MS CRM 3.0 SBE installed. I had some issues with SQL Reporting services and at one point tried upgrading the 4 SBS sites to ASP.NET 2. I undid that using MS supplied instructions. I've had some issues that others with R2 and my configuration are reporting. Eventually I put SSRS in its own AppPool to get rid of the ASP.NET errors.

Is this normal - if not does it have something to do with my ASP.NET 2.0 adventure?
