Is c:\system volume information required for backup in sbs 2003?

Is the c:\system volume information directory required for backup in SBS2003?

Its holding around 11gb of data????? and I am wandering if it's required for the SBS2003 backup.

Just to be clear - if we do not backup the c:\system volume information folder - could we restore the data in the event of a problem?
