We have a Windows 2003 Small Business Server and I need help with the following....
I just bought an HP 9250c Digital Sender unit (scanner) for our business and need help/advice with some basic configuration. The Digital Sender is able to "access an LDAP address book" and I have tried every configuration possible to no avail. It allows for 4 types of authentication anonymous, simple, simple over ssl and kerberos. I understand that anonymous access has been disabled in 2003 and have read the MS KB article 326690. I am reluctant to go changing this as a) I am not familiar with the LDP.EXE tool and b) I hate to randomly "open things up" unneccessarily.
Additionally, I would assume if it is compatible with Kerberos authentication, then that would be the most secure method anyway. However, every time I try to add the credentials, IP address of LDAP server (I use the SBS of course), and port number (I use 389) it says that NO LDAP SERVERS ARE FOUND ON THE NETWORK. Am I missing something else here with regards to LDAP access in SBS 2003? I have been on the phone with HP support for almost 2 hours and they insist that the problem is with communication on a network level rather than with their device. The only true test they had me run was to use ldap://server at a browser and search (it fails), but doesn't this just confirm that anonymous access isn't possible when you get the "error"?
I do have a firewall (Sonicwall TZ170) but there is a default rule to ALLOW any LAN communication regardless of port/type. For good measure I added a rule to allow port 389 inside the LAN as well - as you might expect, still doesn't work.
I need help please...Jeff....anyone...

Jerry
