The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Smart host SMTP authentication over mail.btconnect.com

Asked by Broadnet_Systems in SBS Small Business Server, Exchange Email Server, Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)

Hello
I have an SBS 2003 downloading with POP3 connector (from client's registered domain) and sending out through smarthost (mail.btconnect.com). Day-to-day in and out flow of mail is ok (after registering client domain with BT Business!)... I then configured mail forwarding for two user accounts to send a copy out to (in this case) 2 x Blackberry addreses. The copy forward emails are generated on the Exchange 2003 no problem (you can see them queuing) but when they are released onto mail.btconnect.com they get EATEN!!... good old BT!

As always BT claim never to have seen this before and arent much help (as always). One chap told me to try and "bring the SPAM count down on these copy forwards..." by configuring SMTP Auth in the (SBS) smarthost using our btconnect.com email address details (Basic Authentication). I tried this but the SMTP Auth was rejected!!

Tested this with Outlook Express running on the SBS and mail was sent ok.

I have read muchos bad stuff about mail.btconnect.com and been advised to change my client to another ISP... am i bashing my head against the BT brick wall or is there a solution to this mess?

Does anyone know if Exchange 2003 'Outbound Security' on the Smarthost needs to be configured differently from setting it up in a mail client like Outlook Express/Outlook?

Thanks
