The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Server Error in '/' Application.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

    <system.web>

It means that there is an error in the sharepoint application you tried to access. However, the server cannot display the error to you because its configured not to. The next step you should do now is to go to your web.config file in your web server (sharepoint), then search for the words 'customErrors'. You should see a similar config shown in the above code snippet you posted. Change the 'mode' to "off".

After you done this, retry the application from your client again. You should now be able to see more details on why there is an error.

Note: Or you can simply go to your web server and access the sharepoint web page from there. The current settings you have will allow you to view the error on the web server itself.

I did change it on the web.config file as you told me...still it is showing the same error message when I go to "companyweb"

How do I do this one?

I went to the server and open internet explorer and put it "companyweb" and it showed this webpage but when I clicked to "My Company's Internal Web Site" link, it goes to this same page.  What is happening?

Try resetting your IIS by performing the following operation on the command line.
iisreset /noforce

[it goes to this same page.  What is happening?]
Mouse over the link you mentioned. Is it actually linking back to the same site?

* There may be several web.config for each site, so make sure u are changing the right one.

This is caused by installing .Net 2.0 on your server and allowing it to configure itself on the current web sites.

Open IIS Manager > Web Sites > Companyweb > Properties

If there is an ASP .NET tab make sure that it's set to 1.1.4322 and not 2.0.xxxx

If it was set to 2.0, then change it back and make sure none of the other SBS sites are set for .NET 2.0.  Then, run the following at a command prompt:

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_regiis.exe -r

In IIS Manager the "Companyweb(stopped)".  I tried to start it but the following error showed up.

IIS was unable to start the site. Another site may already be using the port you configured for this site.  Please select a unused port for this site.

Okay... I think this is related to your other question (http:Q_23005058.html).  So let's look at everything together here.

Please confirm that when you look at the Web Sites in IIS Manager they match what I've outlined here:

Jeff,

I've put everything according to your outline.  But the following error showed when I tried to get into the companyweb from the server.
Do you think I need to reset the IIS: iisreset /noforce ?

Whoah..... you need to do more than an IISReset...

You have apprarently attempted to UPGRADE your CompanyWeb to WSS 3.0... which cannot be done.  You've now hosed SharePoint.

Follow this guy's blog post to fix your server:
http://blogs.technet.com/edwalt/archive/2006/11/29/removing-wss-3-0-companyweb-upgrade-restoring-wss-2-0-on-sbs-2003.aspx

Jeff,

They told me that it was installed using side by side installation using the white paper described here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0daafc81-efff-4f5b-a28a-8265f1e99f5b&displaylang=en

The other problem that I'm having is that the rww and owa is not working

12.06.2007 at 11:54AM PST, ID: 20422616
Oh sorry...and the other thing was that the companyweb was working just fine on the internal network although unaccessible from outside...Until recently???

Nowhere in that paper does it say you can or should call your new site "companyweb".  In fact, you shouldn't.

Did you also happen to see that in Step 4.4.a it says, "do not use Port 80, Port 8080, or other used ports"?
