The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

This also seems to be called under an event ID 6004 (Error)
"A driver packet received from the I/O subsystem was invalid.  The data is the packet."

With "MrxSmb - Device\Lanmanredirector CJS NETBT TCPIP" from the Data Bytes section of the event log

As well as another Warning;

LSASRV - SPNEGO (Negotiator) - Event ID 40961
The Security System could not establish a secured connection with the server ldap/cjs-server.CJS.local/CJS.local@CJS.local.  No authentication protocol was available.

For sure, you need to remove 192.168.16.1 as a DNS Server IP, because you should only have your SBS's listed.  I'll guess that you added this thinking that was needed for Internet access?  But that's handled by your SBS's DNS Server forwarders which are configured when you run the Configure Email and Internet Connection Wizard (CEICW -- linked as "Connect to the Internet" in the Internet and Email section of the Server Management Console).

Since you seem to not be using DHCP on your workstations, I would guess that perhaps they weren't originally joined to your SBS-based domain the "SBS way" using http://<servername>/connectcomputer.  Using DHCP and joining workstations in this manner ensures that everything is configured correctly and allows you to take full advantage of all the SBS features.

This also will ensure that the workstations are properly registered in your SBS's DNS which if they aren't would cause Event 40961.

To correct this, rejoin them following the steps I've outlined here:  http://sbsurl.com/rejoin

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the update. I have removed the 192.168.16.1 from the DNS and will monitor for the rest of the day. This was added as fall back when we had a server issue.

For info we did add the workstations to the domain using the "SBS way", we have found issues before.

Cheers

But why are you not using DHCP on your workstations?  Because they should have a WINS IP of 192.168.16.2 configured since Exchange still uses WINS in an SBS environment.

Hi Jeff,
Changed config to DHCP (we had it on fixed for an appliction that we inherited but have now removed) and this seems to have resolved some issues (hangs on start and shut down).

However we are still getting the;
This also seems to be called under an event ID 6004 (Error)
"A driver packet received from the I/O subsystem was invalid.  The data is the packet."
With "MrxSmb - Device\Lanmanredirector CJS NETBT TCPIP" from the Data Bytes section of the event log

There are a number of reasons that the error could occur... check out:
