The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Group Policy Editor causes SBS to hang indefinately

Asked by dominic_3112 in SBS Small Business Server, Active Directory, Windows 2003 Server

Hello,
I have had an issue for the last few days where after editing a group policy object (from GPO editor on the SBS server).
I try to apply the setting and the server just hangs.  I am using SBS 2003 SP2 R2, WSUS 2.0, WSS 2.0 .Net 2.0 etc....
I have only done two things prior to this occuring.  Apart from the antivirus software it is a clean install from scratch, there are no other third party apps.

1. Installed 2 new sticks of Kingston RAM 1GB each
Note: I have thouroughly tested the RAM with microsoft memory tester, and no problems.

2. Installed CA Internet Security (this is a single computer version, maybe not suh a good idea).

I don't know if they are related in any way but these are the only changes I have made prior to this issue occuring.

The problem does not occur when editing any particular group policy object.  In this most recent case I was editing a client group policy object --> Important URLs.  This same freeze has happened three times in the last couple of days, and while the policy settings I was changeing differed, the two error logs that occured just before the crash were  the same in each case.  See the attached code.
I need to roll this out soon so if anyone can help that would be great.
thanks,
Dominic
