I just installed a fresh version of SBS 2003 R2 with all the updates and when I try to connect a client computer (which is a fresh install of Windows XP Professional SP 2 with all the updates including IE 7 on both server and client.)
I can enter the user name and password & I get to the assign users to this computer screen. As well as available computer names when I click next I get completing the network configuration wizard then I click finish when I just get "an error has occured".
The only error in the application list is event id =19011 insource (MSSQL$MICROSOFTBCM) can not be found error 1355. but then I cleared all the events and re ran the connectserver with the same results but no error listed in any log.
The MSSQL is running with a green arrow ( SBSmonitoring and service running= SQL server
I then try connecting an older dell computer also running Windows XP SP 2 with IE7 using the
http://servername/connectcomputer and I get this message: The Small Business Server Networking Wizard was not installed. You may not be a member of the local Administrators security group on this computer or your Local Intranet security settings may be set to High. Click Connect to the network now to try again and click Yes when prompted. If the wizard fails to install, contact the person responsible for your network.
I am log on as the only user on this computer as a computer administrator. I went into IE tools and options lowered all the security added the site name to trusted sites and also under local intranet (advance) also. disabled all firewalls & antivirus on both computers.
After reading another site I tried reinstall on the server went to reinstall Windows sbs 2003 selected maintenance for server tools and Reinstall for Administrative and client deployment and rebooted all machines but that did not help either.
I have the client computer nic connected to a gig switch to the nic of the server and I can get to the internet via the both client computers
the connection-specfic DNS suffix is the company name.local and the Default Gateway, DHCP, DNS, and WINS all are using the ip address of the server running SBS 2003 R2 and I can ping it from both machines..
A third old Dell computer also running windows XP Pro SP2 with IE7 was able to connect via the
http: wizard with out any hitch.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
