The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Restore BCM2007 / MOA2008 shared DB

Asked by livegirllove in SBS Small Business Server, Microsoft Office Suite, SQL Server 2005

After a server crash I was left with only my BCM2007 backup.  an .sbb file
The original setup was SQL2005 db shared on SBS2003.
This is an integrated MOA/BCM db.

On new server I created a new DB using the MS BCM2007 database tool.  I then shared this db to my users.

I then did a restore of the data using the same tool.

I was able to connect to the BCM db from all my workstations.

I then used the Data Tool wizard in MOA2008 to create a new company file.  xxx.sbc

On the server I can double-click this file and it opens MOA2008 with all my data.  ;)

However from all the clients I get an error saying that it couldn't connect to the SQL db or there is a permissions problem.

I went back to the Data Tools wizard for MOA.
I added my users as Users for MOA.  I made them all "Office Managers".

Still not able to connect from any workstations.

In some research it says to verify that the tcp/ip protocol is enabled on that DB instance on the server.
I used the Sql Network tool.  It says I should be able to move a protocol from enabled to not enabled etc.

However I don't have any protocols for that instance of SQL.  I can see protocols in the MSDE instances of SQL that are for sharepoint, monitoring etc.

My confusion is that the same workstations can connect to the DB using Outlook/BCM2007, but cannot from MOA2008.

So I think my question is how do I enable protocols for tcp/ip on that instance of SQL.  How do you tell what port?

Also when I connect to the db from BCM I use this:
connect to : jtlsbs\mssqlserver,1433
db name: mssmallbusiness

But when I created the company file mssmallbusiness.sbc the connection string is: jtlsbs,5356 dbname: mssmallbusiness.

Like I said though from the server I can open accounting using that port.

I also ran the CEICW to allow this port. (1 NIC setup)
