The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Best Corporate Level AntiVirus / Security

Tags: Corporate AntiVirus, 2008
Simple question.  Looking for best Corporate Level Antivirus.  Have used Norton Corporate Edition for years, but Norton's more recent products appear to be receiving a lot of bad press over resource use, install complications, and performance.  Would prefer to stick with NAV, but willing to change.  Everyone has their favorite NAV; for ever postive review, there is a negative review.  What about Symantec Endpoint 11.0?  Need central management,.  Using Small Business Server 2003 with Active Directory.   About 50 users.

Don't know Symantec Endpoint 11.0! Sorry.

Everyone has their favorite NAV; for ever postive review, there is a negative review. I tell you my experience. I tried Norton, McAfee, AVG, Sophos, Norman, Kaspersky, F-Prot and Panda. All of them didn't meet up to my 1 or more of my expectations. What are my expectations?

- Need support if I ask. Preferably in my native language or English;
- Quick fixes of Virus breaches;
- No load on pc's and servers. At least as less as possible;
- Complete protection (incl. malware/virus/spam/spyware);
- Easy access to hotfixes and Service packs;
- The possibility to manual update the virus definitions if for some reason the automatic feature is unavailable;
- Central deployment and management;
- Do a domain virus scan with one click from management console.

The only antivirus product at this moment that meets up to my expectations is Trend Micro.

Just some objective tests/articles:

Hopes this will point you in the right direction.

Good luck.

I use Mcafee - Effective, flexible and small overhead,  http://www.mcafee.com/

We have used TrendMicro NeatSuite for about 5 years.

In a school you need to ensure that the workstations are up to date. Officescan seems to pick up a lot of viruses that students bring in with their memory sticks.

For a network that size, you might want to consider AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/us.product-avg-anti-virus-network-edition).
Just the Anti-virus function - I'm not a fan of the 'suite' type proctections.

I have had great success with McAfee ePO for the past several years and am always comfortable recommending it.

Endpoint seems to be yet another disaster from Symantec. I tried to help a friend install it a couple of months ago. We were able to figure out the workstation installation, but he still doesn't have the server piece figured out.

Trend has the CSM sor small Business server suite specifically designed for SBS. Central admin was their aim in the design.
Works OK, however you can't beat a real firewall and carefull users.

I'm listening.  Trend seems to be popular.   I am testing NAV11 suite.  I like the interface, assume the Server version and System Center will be similar.  There appear to some performance issues; lots of latency in Outlook; but not ready to blame Symantec yet.  Anyone want to comment on BitDefender Enterprize products?  I have been told that Microsoft uses CA.  Is that true?  What about CA?

"but not ready to blame Symantec yet."

Go read the long list of problems over in the Symantec Zone - even if you're not ready to blame Symantec, those who actually use it are. Even the Symantec technicians who post here don't try to duck that one - they just talk about the 'patch' that will be the panacea.

AVG has the simplest install process I've ever seen and McAfee ePO has the best reporting function and strongest DAT file 'update' process.

Both are fairly low overhead on the server and workstations - and highly configurable for all of the 'maintenance' type functions.

Best of all, both have free 30 trial downloads (fully functional) so that you can test this yourself.

Do you have an update? So we can help you further on this?

If you missed the grading comments, here it is again:

I am presently testing NAV 11. After that I intend to evaluate Trend, which according to everyone's responses, seems to be the most popular. I really haven't experienced any major problems with NAV, but incoming email appears to be slower and I have occassional tempoary hangs which I do believe are related to NAV. If these go away when I evaluate Trend, than we will have our answer to the NAV question. Eveyone gets points.

I will update after I evaluate Trend.  Thanks everyone.

Trend was the best.   Whether it still is the best I do not know.  I just updated from Office Scan 2.0 to SMB 3.6 -- my one workstation is 300% slower scanning now.  I'll  let you know if their tech support gets it fixed up.  Seems like things at Trend have been slipping.
