The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

SBS 2003 add user wizard & backup wizard won't run

Tags: Microsoft, Exchange 2003, sp2
Hi Experts:  I have SBS 2003 with Exchange, and recently I have been unable to run the add user wizard, and the backup wizard.  The first window pops up to begin the wizard.  When I click next, nothing happens.  The event log says:  faulting application addusr.exe... and faulting application bkpwiz.exe and both refer to a fault address.  If you need futher information to assist me, please let me know.  Thanks in advance for any help.

I have all service packs installed.

03.08.2008 at 06:54AM PST, ID: 21077117
No luck.  I have run ExBPA, and corrected all (no critical) problems found.  I still continue to have the problem.  Each time I run the "Add User Wizard" I get an error in the application log referring to .Net 2.0 "Faulting application addusr.exe, version 5.2.2651, stamp 3f5fb736, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, stamp 000000000, debug? 0, fault address 0x0672bf50

Have you modified the default SBS Active Directory OU's?  (ie, Domain.local\MyBusiness\USERS\SBSUsers ?)

I'm not sure I'm following you.  Are you asking if I have modified it recently, or have I modified it in an attempt to correct it?  Either way, I have not modified them.

I was asking if they have ever been modified.  So the default OUs still exist?

If so, then please post the output from running SYSTEMINFO at a command prompt.

This is most likely an issue related to Data Execution Prevention.  Try adding the addusr.exe to the DEP exceptions (System Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings > DEP Tab) and see if that will let you run the wizard.

If it does, then I'd suspect that you didn't apply SBS 2003 SP1 correctly (even though its installed, as well as Windows Server 2003 SP2 at this point).  You can reapply all of the Service Packs to make sure that all is well.  Follow the steps outlined in http://sbsurl.com/sp1 to install all FIVE components of SBS SP1, but substitute Windows Server 2003 SP2 as well as Exchange 2003 SP2 for their SP1 counterparts.
