The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

FUBAR-ed SBS install

I recently installed SBS (not R2) and had it up and running. Everything was working fine, but the Remote Access Wizard would fail. After installing and running SBS Best Practices Analyzer, I realized that I had accidentally jumped straight to SP2 without the important steps in the middle. Not only that, but it was Server 2003 SP2 and not for SBS (there's a difference, right?)

I followed some instructions I found to uninstall the rogue SP2 and reinstall all the right patches in the right order. I installed SBS SP1, Exch SP1, a couple of patches, and finally Server 2003 SP1.

Now my company website doesn't work, hardly any of my Wizards work under the Internet and Email section of the Server manager.

Everything they are using is still working... ie: Exchange,  authentication and shared files, but I would really like the Internet Wizard and the Remote Access Wizard to work again.

I've tried running the SBS Setup wizard again, choosing to "maintain" Server Tools so I can uninstall/reinstall Networking, but the Networking option is the only one grey (although I can choose to remove), and it fails when trying to remove. I get the following message:
An error occurred while copying files for the Networking component.  See C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs\SBSMSI-B58E39B9-12E2-4E9B-A01B-9B896C6A52A8.LOG for the list of files that were not copied. You may want to run Setup again and reinstall the component.
In the log are these messages:
