I have an ongoing issue for the past week that has me baffled. We have a SBS 2003 SP2 server, it's the email and file server for a domain of roughly 12 users. It has been in place for about a year, sitting behind a Linksys firewall. It seems last week the internet line would go offline periodically over the course of the day. At first I thought it was an ISP issue, spent almost 2 days working with the ISP troubleshooting everything we could think of, even switching out the router with a brand new out of the box router. But we noticed when the internet became unavailable, we could ping the outside of the router, internally we could ping the gateway, access the shares on the server, but could not ping past the gateway. Doing some digging on the server I noticed when the connection came up, the NIC would say, connection re-established. Thinking the NIC was the issue, I updated the drivers, but that didn't fix the issue. That didn't fix the issue, so I put a new NIC in, that didn't fix the problem. Looking on the DNS settings, when the line would go down, I noticed DNS logged the error 6702, which Microsoft said can be ignored, but I made the changes so it would not try and register it's A Record because it's a single server domain. That didn't cure the problem. So I'm officially stumped. Does anyone have any recommendations?
