Can not ping server/exchange store down - can not restart service

Switched from Bellsouth to Deltacom today for phone and internet, phones up - initialy, prior to connecting to thier router, we had exchange connectivity but no internet - as it should have been - once we connected to thier router we have never been able to see the server again from WS's. Might be coincidance but....

Can not ping SBS 2003 server from WS though server can ping WS's. Ran internet/email wizards and server IP change wizard to reconfig and then back to original IP. Any ASAP help is appreciated

Sure. NAT lets you use your "private" network, either 10.x or 192.168.x and connect it to the internet. It does this by remembering what computers on the inside make connections to the outside. Then, when outside computers respond to these requests the NAT device matches up the incoming and outgoing connections and forwards 'em to the right internal IP address.

There are address ranges that CAN'T be routed by their very definitions. That's our 192.168.x.x and 10.x.x.x

If your cable modem gives you an internet address then your router will NAT a 192.168.x address for you. But if your cable modem is configured as a router then it has a 192.168.x address already, and since that can't be routed...your traffic goes nowhere. There ARE some tricks to make it work but that's beyond the scope of a "simple" SBS network.

Your router will take care of the NATting. Your DHCP setting for default gateway should be set to the router, your DNS to the SBS box.

So with no NAT on your cable modem you should be able to get an internet address on your router and be fine. Again, make sure you don't run DHCP on any other devices!
