Browse All TopicsI have a client that purchased an Dell server with SBS 2003 OEM installed. They just purchased new hardware and used the same OEM to install. Of course they can not activate with that software. They since have purchased a new Open License of SBS 2003 R2.
I am trying to find a way to upgrade/change to the valid install without having to reinstall the domain and software. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tareef

Call the MS activation line. With windows xp they have a tool to switch license types and keys. They might have the same for server. If not they should still be able to give you an activation code that will get you running. You can then just run the r2 update disk on the old install to bring it to the r2 release.
Microsoft recommends downgrading to SP1, then install the server components of R2 (openlicense).
That should do it.
