SBS 2003 Windows Update Error

SBS 2003 DELL SERVER PROBLEMS

My wife and I have belonged to a local church for nearly 5years now and yet I have never been asked to provide any IT support for them as they have a group of young kids that I been doing it for them. Well just today I received a call regard multiple network issues some of which have been going on for more then two weeks.

So I went onsite and took a quick look at the Dell SC440 (I think it was) and first noticed the both the system and application logs were full of hundreds of errors. Next I noticed that both partitions were just about full with less than 4GBS of available space on each. And lastly I took a peek at the exchange admin and noticed the queues had 70+ messages pending delivery for the past day or so. Many problems and issues going on but I was looking for some help on two of the most pressing issues if someone might guide in the right direction.

First no service packs have been installed it looks like SBS 2003 R1 with no updates. And the exchange server also has no updates.

I was told that each time they try and run Windows updates a message pops up and say something about the Cryptographic Services not running but when I look they are running along with the Automatic Updates and the Background Intelligent Transfer Service are all running. Rebooted the server and the only services that dont load that are set to auto run are 2- McAfee Corporate Edition services.

We also tried to simply download SP2 and running and received the same message.

How can we enable the server to install the updates and clear this error?
