remove the shares and recreate them like KCTS says

Browse All TopicsHi there,
I am having a problem with a new Dell SBS 2003 server that has been added to an existing peer to peer network environment.
It is only functioning as a basic file server so I do not want to setup a domain at this point. I have simply copied all the shared files over to the new server and recreated the exisitng users and passwords. All the XP pro machines are just joined to a workgroup.
Even though I have mirrored the username / passwords on the server - every time they logon they have to reenter their username and password before they can access a share. It then remembers it and allows normal access until they restart or logoff.
How can I resolve this issue.
Many thanks in advance...

Hi guys - many apologies for the delay.
Whatever the original cause, setting them up as a domain resolved it. Because their file-sharing requirements were so simple and there was no need for any permissions I thought it would be more straightforward to just put them in a workgroup. Clearly I was wrong and you're quite right the domain setup is very simple!
All the best and thanks again...

I have to say that it would probaly be easier to set up a domain and use SBS server as intended - it really is not that difficult - its all wizard based and it would allow you much greater administrative control.
Try mapping the share with the following script
net use s: \\ServerName\Share\ /user:username /persistent:yes
