The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Backup Failed - NTBackup error: 'The saved selection file "Script.bks" cannot be found.'

Asked by RiteGuy in SBS Small Business Server, Backup & Restore Software

Tags: , ,

I recently (about 2 mos ago) installed SBS 2003 on a Dell PowerEdge 2900 III.  The installation went smooth.  I also configured and scheduled the backup right away, as I usually do.  That worked fine until about a week ago when the backup started to fail.  The first time it failed was due to a full destination hard drive.  That cleared up the problem for a few days.  Then it started failing every night and the destination drive had plenty of room.

I've tried resolving this problem to no avail.  I did find out that the script.bks file is missing (at least I can't find it anywhere) and any attempts I've made at recreating it by re-running the configure backup wizard from the server management console don't recreate the script.bks file.

The error messages we're getting include these 2:
Source: SmallBusinessServer
Event ID: 5634
Desc: One or more components of Small Business Server Backup failed. For more information, click Backup in Server Management, and view the log files.

Source: NTBackup
EventID: 8017
Desc: NTBackup error: 'The saved selection file "Script.bks" cannot be found.'

I've tried to tie this to some event (in other words, "what changed") and can't pin it down to anything.
FYI: The backup is being done to a Seagate FreeAgent 500Mb NTFS formatted drive which is USB attached.

Any help to solving this would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks,
