WM6 phone receives push email from SBS2003 but cannot send email

Asked by gflavell in SBS Small Business Server, Exchange Email Server, Windows Mobile (Pocket PC / Win CE) Operating Systems

I have a "plain vanilla" SBS 2003 R2 server  on a single NIC behind a sonicwall firewall.
I recently connected a WM6 smartphone (TMobile Shadow) via the instructions I found here on this site.  Everything went well and the phone receives email perfectly.
The problem is that email sent FROM the phone disappears completely into thin air.  I can't find any error messages anywhere (server or phone) to begin debugging this problem.
