SBS 2003: Upgrading to R2, Cannot Remove/Reinstall the Administration Component
Hello,
I am trying to upgrade a R1 server to R2. It has SP2 and the Latest Updates but I am running into a rather fun error. It tells me to install the Server Tool:Administration before continuing. KNowing I already had I checked the Server Setup from the add remove programs pane. It is greyed out and the only option is to remove (Shows Version 5) . So I figure I should reinstall it. It fails and says:
"An error occurred while copying files for the Administration component. See C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs\SBSMSI-8952E993- 139E-4E71- 881F-DD40E 4DB8F81.LO G for the list of files that were not copied. You may want to run Setup again and reinstall the component."
So I grab the log and dont see anything to exciting:
I tried reinstalling all of the server tools but its still giving the same error. Any ideas? Thanks
Ryan

I meant through the small business server item in the add/remove not as a single item in the add/remove. Its been working and still works, its just the problem now with installing the R2 components its complaining.

I'd still suspect that you don't have SBS SP1 properly installed.

Alright, I'll try that. First thing though, the Server Tools is messed up. Some things show installed, some dont. When I try to remove Client Apps, or Networking (Partially Installed) it just errors out. I was successfully able to do this before and get them reinstalled but they seemed to have corrupted. What steps do I need to take to get the server tools all working before I re install SP1?
Thanks for the patience.

OK, so I successfully got the server tools to reinstall. Now that everything is running, I am going to put the upgrade on hold until I get back from Scotland in a week and a half. I will be trying to resintall SP1 at that time and will keep you updated. Thanks for the assistance thus far.

Reinstalled the SP and brought it up to R2 and the latest updates successfully. Thanks
I have the same error message "An error occurred while copying files for the Administration component. See C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs\SBSMSI-8952E993- 139E-4E71- 881F-DD40E 4DB8F81.LO G for the list of files that were not copied. But we need to replace the trial SBS 2003 Sp1 version to OEM SBS 2003 sp2 CDs aquired.
Any suggestions

How about looking at the log file that it tells you to look at and see which files weren't copied. If you need further help with this, please post a new question by clicking on the "ask a related question" link.
