I just added a user and started to receive the message "License usage for product Windows Server is nearing the maximum number of per server licenses purchased.". The Licensing snap-in shows 15 installed licenses and 17 as the maximum usage. Neither of those numbers correlates with the total number of users defined or the total number of real-person users defined. When I go on the Web to try to figure out what to do, I see 5-user add on packs, Microsoft P/N T74-00002, listed with the description "In Per User or Per Device mode, a separate CAL is required for each user or device that accesses or uses the Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 software on any server. You may reassign a Windows CAL from one device to another device, or from one user to another user, provided the reassignment is made either (a) permanently away from the one device or user or (b) temporarily to accommodate the use of the Windows CAL either by a loaner device, while a permanent device is out of service, or by a temporary worker, while a regular employee is absent.". I also see descriptions that SBS 2003 always operates in per-server mode, but with rigid restrictions on access, so I don't understand whay all the blurb about per-user mode.
Questions: Is T74-00002 the correct thing to buy, or is something else the correct thing to buy? And, not as important but of interest, where did that 17 number come from?
