Trying to restore a user's file and the Domain Admin cannot open the file once restored

I am trying to restore an Excel file for a user that is located in his My Documents.  I have the file on tape and I have redirected the restore to the server's desktop.  When I go to open the file I am told I do not have permissions to open this user's My Documents.  What gives?  I am the admin of the domain.

I checked his documents settings and had to add the domain admin and the according rights/permissions.  After doing this I then restored the documents again with the same results.  Any ideas?  I suppose I can restore the file to its original place but would like to avoid that.
