One of our domain power users, Instron, receives the following error message every time he logs in:
"The system cannot copy a file from the server to this computer. Make sure that the network cables and devices are plugged in and functioning properly, and then try to join this computer to the network."
All other users logging into the machine have no problems or error messages. I was browsing the internet for suggestions/fixes, and many thought that it was a permission problem. I changed the properties of the C:/Windows/Temp folder so that users could "Write" to this file, but that didn't solve the problem, as suggested. The most thorough one that I came across can be found here:
http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=614041I followed the procedure step-by-step. The value associated with the refcount was 1. I manually created the registry value referenced in the article, with a value of 1. The issue still persisted, so I continued troubleshooting...
I manually ran \\servername\clients\setup
\setup.exe
/s servername on the client workstation and still received the same error message. So, I installed Filemon to try and determine what file failed to copy. I attached the filemon files for reference. I'm not too familiar with this program, so I wasn't sure where to go from here...
The thing that puzzled me was that when the problem first occurred, the user 'Instron' would receive this error on other workstations as well [other users COULD logon the same workstations without a problem]. I changed which logon script would begin for 'Instron' and no error message appeared on MY computer for this script. I switched it back to the original logon script, logged on as 'Instron' on MY computer, and no error message appeared. So, I went back to the client's computer to login as 'Instron' and ensure that fixed the problem, but the error appeared again!!
I'm not sure why this error could possibly be occurring... doesn't seem to be a computer issue, or user issue. There are no effects on the computer operating, other than the error message popping up every time the user logs in. I also attached Instron's Login script for reference. Any ideas on how to fix this error??
