The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Service Control Manager Multiple errors in system logs

Asked by tucup in SBS Small Business Server, Windows 2003 Server, Windows NT Networking

Tags: microsoft, sbs 2003, 2, event log error, ERROR: Service Control Manager: Event ID 7000. The update service failed to start Access denied

I normally get a Server Performance Report via email but this morning the report arrived and the display page stated the following.

The page could not be displayed.
To work around this problem, perform the following steps. After each step, try again to access the page.
"      Ensure that the MSSQL$SBSMONITORING service is started.
"      Ensure that the server is not low on memory or disk space.
"      Restart the server.
"      Verify that the server is functional and that there are no system-wide problems.
"      Run the Set Up Monitoring Reports and Alerts task in the Server Management Monitoring and Reporting taskpad

I logged into the SBS server and checked the system logs which is filled with multiple errors ie:

ERROR      Service Control Manager      none       7000

The Update Services Service failed to start due to the following error:
Access Denied

I tried to manually start Update Service it in services and got

Could not start the update service on local computer. error 5 access denied

I was thinking of changing the password in the service but as I am a novice I didnt want to break the server any more than it is as as far as staff are concerned it is running fine.

Has anyone had this error before.

PS
just to let you know that the day before I had trouble installing WSUS and after reading a post here ran a .NET cleanup and reinstalled .NET

I am stumped here.
