The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

W2K Server moving only DC in domain to new hardware

Asked by ABS3 in SBS Small Business Server, Active Directory, Domain Name Service (DNS)

I admin a small network that consists of a single AD DC, and 1 other server that handles Citrix, AV, and  web filtering, 80 XPProSP2 clients, spread out over 5 locations about 40 miles apart. The lone DC handles Active Directory and DNS, and is the TSLS (TS Licensing) for the network. There are 90 users, all with roaming profiles. I have successfully installed a new server, still running W2K Server, to take over as the DC and have managed to get all of the FSMO's transferred to it, user's home directories, and roaming profile's migrated and working on the new server ( the goal is to take the old server down and get rid of it ) and all seems to be working like it should. I have 2 remaing pieces that I need help with. I need to get the licensing server job moved to the new box - both TS and Windows Server CAL's - and I need to make the new system the DNS server for the network in the quickest, easiest way possible. I am thinking about creating an alias to point the old server's IP to the new server in DNS, but I am wondering if that would create unneeded DNS traffic - I just want to avoid touching each machine if at all possible, since I am a 1 man shop.Start Free Trial
