SBS backup taking too long after reboot - from 2 hours to 15 hours

This has happenend before.  We are backing up only 22GB of data each night.  Normally takes just under two hours to complete.  I powered the server down over the holiday weekend and when it ran its first backup it took 15 hours.  Today's backup is currently running and the system is quite slow.

The logs are attached. They do not reveal any insights, just document that the process time increased almost seven-fold.  Some folks have suggested that I hack the NtBackup exe file to prevent a verify, but this is not the issue...we need to know why the backup magically takes much longer for no apparent reason.

Could it be that my USB2 device has slowed down to USB1 ?  I've have not changed ports, but I have seen this happen on my XP boxes.  I plan to test that when the backup ends.

Any ideas?  Logs attached.  Regular run plus slow run.

Thanks,
