Unknown Error - Possibly Local DNS Issue

Asked by CSharpe85 in SBS Small Business Server, Domain Name Service (DNS), TCP/IP

Tags: Microsoft, Windows, Server 2003 Small Business Edition, Possible local DNS error

We recently migrated one SBS box over to a new SBS server, email and all. Everything went perfectly.

For a few months, we could simply type the name of the server (in the case, LDSSBS) into windows explorer, and we would gain access to the server.

A few weeks ago, we had a few power failues while I was out of town. When I got back, we had several issues, including this one, where we are no longer able to ping or type just the name of the server into windows explorer. I have discovered that I can gain access to the server again by modifying the default DHCP-issued IPCONFIG info listed below (default settings). DHCP is not issued by the SBS, rather by an Adtran router.

I have also attached a copy of what happens when we try to ping it multiple ways (Via hostname, via IP, and via full domain string). We can ping it off the IP and the domain string, but the hostname does not return anything.

I have discovered that if I add the domain suffix 'lds.local' under the advanced DNS properties box, I can ping and access LDSSBS by name. I would like to avoid having to go around one by one changing the 65+ stations in the office.

Does anyone have a clue?

Thanks in advance.Start Free Trial
