The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. One XP Machine will not connect to domain

We have one machine which will not connect to the domain;

I can ping the server by name and by IP address,

When attempting to connect via 'run -> server' it asks for username and password then when you type these in it says 'incorrect function'  and if you try the same thing again it just brings up the explorer window with nothing in it.

When trying to join the computer to the domain it gives the 'a domain controller could not be contacted' error.

I've been looking at other posts of a similar nature but have been unable to make it work, downloaded the server 2003 support tools and tried to run netdiag on the server but I'm my brain is shutting down at the moment and I cant get that to work!

The XP machine has all the correct information such as DNS etc when you look at ipconfig, I've also tried reinstalling the tcp/ip stack and checked the hosts file.
