The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Setting up SBS 2003 domain with Dell PowerEdge t300 Single Nic, Netopia DSL Wireless Router, D-LinkDGS-1024D Switch, and D-Link DIR655 Wireless N Router

Asked by tawapa in SBS Small Business Server, Network Routers, Computer Servers

Hello,

We have just purchased a new Dell PowerEdge T300 computer and moved out location to a new office. I have been given the task of setting up this new network Domain for the office. Attached is a diagram of how I think it needs to be setup. What we want is the DSL Modem/Router to get the internet connection, then lead that to the switch where our Server and Client computers are all plugged into. We also want to add a wireless router to this switch to allow wireless access for our laptop client computers.

I am not sure if we should let the DSL Modem/Router handle the DHCP and Firewall or let the Server do it. With the current setup, having the DSL Modem/Router handling the DHCP I am able to get Internet from the server and the client computers. I was able to add one computer to the domain however every time we log in after the initial log in it takes 10 - 15 minutes to get logged in. And once logged in we can not seem to connect the computers. Like trying to offer Remote Assistance from the Server to the client computer we get the message that the client computer does not exist or cannot be found, yet it is listed in the client computers under the server management console.

I am not exactly sure if this is the proper way to set this up or if I should have the server handle the firewall and the DHCP functions.

We need to allow Remote Access to our network for some of our workers who work from home regularly.

Any help on this matter and the proper steps would be so appreciated. I am very capable with computers and Set this kind of configuration up about ten years ago, but things have changed a lot since then and I just cannot seem to get this all functioning properly at all.

Thanks in advance!Start Free Trial
