The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Migration questions W2000 Server to SBS 2003 R2

Asked by poutses in SBS Small Business Server, Windows 2003 Server, Microsoft Dynamics

Tags: , , ,

Dear friends,

I am managing a small network (10 Windows XP Pro) with a Windows 2000 Server as the domain controller, and a Windows 2003 Server as a backup domain controller that hosts Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0.

Tomorrow, I am planning of migrating the domain to a small business server 2003 R2. Actually removing the w2k server and replacing it with the sbs machine.

I have read the MS whitepapers on how to do this. I need your hands-on experience on some questions:

PLEASE NOTE that I don't want to start a fresh domain, since this would interfere with MS Dynamics CRM and I would lose all the information. So please do not advise to start a fresh new domain, I need the migration.

a) I realised that the new domain (my current domain is named ITDEV) should have a different name (i.e. ITDEV2). Is this correct?
b) What will happen with the Windows 2003 Server with the CRM. Will it function on the new domain?
c) Have you got any other suggestions for removing the old W2K server without bothering too much with the domain and the business applications (especially the MS CRM)?
d) I am currently at the first stage of the setup of the SBS. Do I need to continue to the second part (setting up the AD, etc) before the migration?
e) I have read two solutions:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884453/en-us
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=fa187d1e-8218-4501-9729-222bd8ebb64c&displaylang=en
Which of those two methods do you propose for my case?

Thank you in advance
George
