The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Trouble with Exchange 2003 on Small Business Server 2003 Standard

Hi,
I have been looking around quite a bit to see if I can find a solution to the problem I'm having and I cannot seem to find one.  The issue is that I'm getting lots of NDR records in the event viewer and I cannot seem to resolve them.  They occur for several reasons, one of which I can detail below, the others I'm not sure why they are happening.

One cause is an application called ActiveFAX sends out faxes via email and uses smtp to do it.  These are failing sometimes with the below error.
ERROR:
This is an SMTP protocol log for virtual server ID 1, connection #4178. The client at "192.168.0.233" sent a "rcpt" command, and the SMTP server responded with "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for user@abc123.com  ". The full command sent was "rcpt TO:<user@abc123.com>".  This will probably cause the connection to fail.

Now one thing that jumps out at me is the IP address in the error, that is the Firewall internal address.  So I'm not sure why that happens.  The other interesting thing is that I can send the same message from Outlook to the same address and it is fine, also I can the same message to different addresses and they go out fine.  Finally I changed the from email address in the outgoing message from ActiveFAX and it worked.

Overall I think I have a DNS or secondary NIC problem going on here, or something setup wrong when I gave the information to the ISP for the MX record.  I'm not that strong with Exchange, We purchased Small Business Server and fired it up.

I think what I need is someone to help me test the install to ensure that it is working properly.

Here is another error that is in the event viewer if it helps.
This is an SMTP protocol log for virtual server ID 1, connection #4183. The client at "X.X.X.X" sent a "xexch50" command, and the SMTP server responded with "504 Need to authenticate first  ". The full command sent was "xexch50 2040 2".  This will probably cause the connection to fail.

I have given this 500 points because I need to resolve this and I expect that it will take a little bit of time to do it and will involve lots of back and forth.  I would love to have an experienced exchange expert walk me through the proper configuration and troubleshooting they use.

Thanks.
