Browse All TopicsI am doing (for the first time) a sbs2003 to 2008 migration. It is quite the lengthy process. One issue I am having is the Public Folders won't replicate over. I think I may have inadvertently skipped this step in the Migration Wizard and I can't go back to it. I tried going to the source server and doing a 'replicate now' and chose the destination server. That was over 24 hours ago. They are all still on the original 2003 server.

I went into the public folder properties on the 03 server. I do see the name of the new server on the replication tab. It says Name 'Public Folder Database' Storage Group 'Second Storage Group' and Server is '2k8sbs' (which is the name of my new server). I set the properties on every folder to Always Run and Urgent as you said. Now do I just wait?
When you guys say "mail flow" what exactly do you mean? My email is currently delivered to the new server without issue. I don't believe the 03 exchange is doing anything. I tried making an Outlook profile choosing the old server so I could copy the Public Folders to my mailbox. I was going to then create new Public Folders and copy the data into them but even putting in the old server name and having it resolve it still attached to the new server.
We do need to use a smarthost. I checked the headers on an email from my new server. It is not passing through the smarthost. I removed the smarthost entry from the old server. I ran an exchange troubleshooting tool that came with the new server and it is popping up smarthost erros and smtp errors. I hope I am on the right track.
Got it. The exchange troubleshooter on the new server had a smarthost error (which you pointed out) and a couple of configuration errors that I fixed. Reran the troubleshooter and it came back clean. I tried to resend changes but still got a weird error. I sat down at the new machine and there were my Public Folders. Checked in Outlook as well. Good to go. Awesome help guys. Thanks a bunch!

Go to the prperties of the Public FOlder and add the SBS 2008 server in there and make the status as 'Urgent' and always run
