hmmm never really checked mine, but just did and get exactly the same thing.

What update are you having issues with...are you approving these through the SBS Console?

by: WraithR32Posted on 2009-08-13 at 12:31:15ID: 25091951

I cannot install SP2 (Catastrophic Failure) or .net 3.5 SP 1.

When I go into Computer Manager, if displays error in the Computer Roles and Features areas.

.net3.5 sp 1 has been approved in the SBS console for 4 days but status is always "In Progress" even after 3 reboots and no install errors are reported.

What OS does System Infomation or Computer Properties report. Seems strange to report FE if full SBS is installed.

Have you installed the Small Business Server BPA?  (www.sbsbpa.com)

I'd go there and see what needs fixing.

Was SP2 offered through WSUS?

Run the SBS BPA and fix everything

Issues surrounding Service Packs are free calls to Microsoft Support btw.

The BPA tool comes back with "Local activation permission to the IIS WAMREG Admin Service required".

The MS KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920783 says "This issue occurs if the domain user account that you specified as the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 service account does not have the Local Activation permission to the IIS Wamreg Admin Service."

I do not remember being asked this during the SBS install. I have added the Domain admin user to the permissions as per the article, but am not sure if this is the correct user to add, or do I need to change the Windows Sharepoint services "logon as" settings?

by: CrisHanna_MVPPosted on 2009-08-13 at 13:05:48ID: 25092270

I believe under services for sharepoint it logs on as NETWORK

Thats what you have to add in the COM tool.

EVERYONE will have this error...it's a know issue with SBS 2008 and not causing the problem you're having.

Was your install for SP2 offered through Windows Update/WSUS?

So you downloaded Windows Server 2008 SP2 from the NET?   Are you sure you downloaded the 64 bit version?

And what errors are you getting with the .net SP?   Have you tried downloading from the net and installing?

by: WraithR32Posted on 2009-08-13 at 13:39:07ID: 25092668

Yes, SP2 has the Windows6.0-KB948465-X64 filename.

.net is complaining about .net 2.0 SP1 prerequesit and Visual Studio 8 errors.

The first time BPA ran it complained about EDNS routers and advised disabling EDNS, which I have done.

I have now tried reinstalling .net 3.5 SP1 and has gotten a LOT further than before in the install process, normally gets to about 5% and then fails, amost at 90% as I type this.

I am not having any issues at the moment, but did just notice that my winver is saying Windows Server Standard FE as well when it is SBS 2008 Standard.

This server has been setup for a month or so now, I never recalled it saying this before but I might be wrong. either way this is really odd.

by: murtekitPosted on 2010-02-23 at 13:57:05ID: 26835639

Hi  Appnet, Im showing FE although I installed SBS standard. Im worried this is going to affect me as it only allows 15 CALS, do you currently have more in use? Trying to work out if this is just a bug

by: WraithR32Posted on 2010-02-25 at 20:32:07ID: 26857419

Hello, a person I know at Microsoft checked and told me that this is normal as SBS is built on top of FE.
