Question

Cannot remotely access Remote Web Workplace on SBS 2003

Asked by: JonYen

Hi Experts

I have a SBS 2003 server with single NIC.  I am forwarding port 25, 3389, 4125, 143, 443, 444 and 993 to enable Remote Web Workplace and so that directors can receive email to their Blackberry devices.  All these ports are forwarded from my Vigor 2800 router to the local IP of the server which is 192.168.0.100

I can access the server from a remote location using RDP.  However, when I try and access the Remote Web Workplace it times out.

If I try to access the Remote Web Workplace from the server desktop using https://mail.domain.com I get the login prompt for my router (which is at 192.168.0.1)

However, if I try to get the Remote Web Workplace by typing http://servername/remote it works perfectly.

I suspect this is probably something in my DNS but I don't have the expertise to work it out.

Thanks
Jon

You HTTPS connection from internally will get answered by your router because it remains at a default configuration: to answer HTTP & HTTPS connections on default ports from the LAN side but not Internet side.  You can change this behaviour on the Vigor by using the System Maintenance \ Management option in the Vigor's configuration - change the ports for the HTTP & HTTPS connections to User Defined Ports.  You should then be able to test the RWW from the server.

Go into DNS under Adminitrative tools.  Is domain.com listed?  If so what is listed for the A host record for mail.domain.com?

I am thinking that Domain.com is not listed on your internal DNS server you are using external DNS servers.  so when you access mail.domain.com from inside your network, it forwards you to the outside of the firewall.

Try and open Port 80 as well and see if you get a response from outside from http://mail.domain.com/remote
